The smallest country on the Horn of Africa is Djibouti. It is located in the eastern part of Africa and covers an area of approximately 23,200 square kilometers. It is bordered by Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west and south, and Somalia to the southeast.
Despite its small size, Djibouti is strategically located at the entrance to the Red Sea and serves as an important trade and transit hub for the region. Its capital and largest city is Djibouti City, which is located on the Gulf of Tadjoura.
Djibouti has a population of around 1 million people and is mostly made up of ethnic Somali and Afar groups. The country has a hot and arid climate, with little rainfall and high temperatures throughout the year.
Djibouti's economy is heavily dependent on its port and transit services, as well as foreign military bases and foreign aid. It also has a small but growing tourism industry, with attractions such as Lake Assal, one of the saltiest lakes in the world, and the unique wildlife of the Day Forest National Park.
